Athanasios Kanellopoulos is the founder, managing partner and legal representative of the company “ATHANASIOS G. KANELLOPOULOS &ASSOCIATES”. He was born and raised in KerteziKalavrita of Achaia Province. He graduated from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1978. He has been in the legal profession continuously since March 1980, maintaining an, independent, organized and fully staffed lawoffice, which, in 2012, decided to expand, founding the law firm “ATHANASIOS G. KANELLOPOULOS &ASSOCIATES”.

MrKanellopoulos’ expertise focuses primarily on criminal law and in particular on the financial crime of the private and public sectors (fraud, embezzlement, forgery, tax offences, corruption, bribery, money launderingMalfeasance). In recent times, Mr. Kanellopoulos has sometimes appeared as an advocate for the prosecution and sometimes as a defense attorney in many criminal trials, with a strong social interest.

At the same time, he has many years of experience in the administrative and public law sectors with particular expertise in public procurement, public tenders and their notices. In this context, he provides his legal services as a lawyer on a paid fixed mandate to the Greek National Tourism Organization from 1984 until today and since 2011 he has been promoted to the position of Head of the Legal Service of the Greek National Tourism Organization. All these years, as legal counselorof the Greek National Tourism Organization, he has handled major issues of the Hellenic Tourism Organization, such as all kinds of contracts, public tenders, employee employment issues, etc.

Mr Kanellopoulos’ experience in the field of bankruptcy law is also great, since he has been appointed by the Bankruptcy Court as a liquidator for the bankruptcy of limited companies. Asa Trustee in bankruptcy, he had by law the exclusive handling of all out-of-court and, above all, judicial cases of bankruptcy, having the subject-matter of civil, commercial and bankruptcy law in particular, including the whole enforcement and expediting of public forced actions of movable and immovable property, in order to recover the overdue claims of the bankrupt company.

In addition to his professional career as anattorney-at-law, Mr. Kanellopoulos has been extensively involved in the wider field of sports, having been elected in 2008 as a member of the country’s Olympic Committee, in which intellectualand generally recognized people, professional and social individuals have served as Presidents and members. From 2009 to 2012 he then served as Chairman of the Marketing Committee of the Hellenic Olympic Committee. While, for his contribution to sport, he has been honoured by his election as an outstanding member of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, for the period 2012 to 2016. From these positions he contributed to the creation of a climate of cooperation between all sports bodies and federations as well as to the proper management and administrative formation of the institutions.

For many years, he has been actively involved with the Athens Bar Association and in particular has been repeatedly honoured by thousands of his fellow lawyers with his election as a Member of the Athens Bar Association from the year 1993 until the year 2014 and in which he has served as Vice-President as well as General Secretary. In this context, he has taken initiatives on critical issues of concern to the entire legal world.

To this day, through all the professional, social and trade union positions he held or holds, he defended, defends and will continue to defend the right of every citizen to have his own political, religious, social ideals and opinions.
